Smyths gift card and holding card

The new Smyths gift card has just arrived in-store! We have created a single card design which now will be used for their baby, gaming and toy departments. These cards will be displayed at each checkout counter and are credited with the desired value at the time of purchase. The plastic credit card-size gift card is attached to a holding card which wraps around it and forms an envelope for presenting the gift.

Our vibrant design predominantly uses the bright Smyths red colour together with a repeating square pattern in the various department colours. The holding card also promotes Smyths key customer services for online product reservation, text alert for out-of-stock products and home delivery service.

Economic Review of the Small Public Services Vehicle Industry

Economic Review of the Small Public Services Vehic

The Commission for Taxi Regulation recently launched its Economic Review of the Small Public Services Vehicle Industry. This independent review is a significant and comprehensive study of the taxi, hackney and limousine industry in Ireland highlighting the many changes since the market was liberalised.

The content of this publication is quite text-heavy, therefore our challenge was to present the information in a clear, structured and easily understood manner that makes it accessible to all. The review includes a lot of tables and charts, so devising the right layout solution that could accommodate the various forms of data was of utmost importance. We took an understated approach to this design, paying particular attention to the typographic detailing. We kept all graphic devices and design flourishes to a minimum throughout the publication and let the information speak for itself.

BFK designers contribute to NCAD Business Studies

15 January 2009

Three of our Senior Designers contributed to a presentation programme with the National College of Art and Design at the end of 2008 to share our expertise with third-level students. Our designers are highly experienced in corporate identity, brand identity and brand communications design. They presented a variety of case studies to the third-year NCAD students in the Design Business Studies programme.

BFK Talks: NCAD Winter 2008

In November, Marie gave an in-depth presentation on our brand development work in evolving the Aerlingus.com and Smyths brand identities, covering the brand evaluation process and the design stages from concept to delivery. In December Evelyn presented our work in developing the Docklands Urban Beach brand identity, communications and campaign. At the beginning of January 2009 Patricia gave a presentation on a broad range of graphic design projects: our Raisin Eddie packaging for Shamrock Foods, our Grand Canal Square hoarding design and our We Are Here 3.0 campaign for Docklands.

Derek McGarry, Deputy Head of the NCAD Design Faculty, said “BFK’s designers made a powerful contribution to our Business Studies programme this year with their presentations. Their case studies of commercial projects provide a practical dimension that can complement our student’s academic experience”.

Now is the time...

22 December 2008

NorthWest Now is a project which focuses on increasing enterprise in the cross-border region, particularly the cities of Londonderry in County Derry and Letterkenny in County Donegal, with the aim of attracting foreign investment.

NWN 1

We were commissioned jointly by the two relevant enterprise agencies (Invest Northern Ireland and IDA Ireland) to develop and communicate a value proposition for this region which would support and add value to the work of the marketing teams of both agencies. The objective was to capture and communicate the combined strengths and advantages of the region for potential investors.

NWN 2

Our brief was to come up with a name and tagline for this region and to develop an appropriate look and feel for the communication tools. We faced a challenge in creating a name that was memorable and would resonate with the staff of both agencies. Our solution is ‘NorthWest Now’ which refers to how the region’s geographical location is traditionally referred to and adds a sense of urgency and immediacy to the area that this region is active now, Now is when things get done. Now is when innovation is realised. The specific narratives were expressed through the tagline: ‘Know us. We know how’, which not only links to the name through its use of the letters N and W but is also a bold statement and a powerful brand proposition.

NWN 3

We developed a confident and sophisticated look and feel for the marketing materials which included a 24-page brochure which is aimed at Chief Executives of potential investors. As a joint publication of IDA and INI, this brochure is not about the facts and figures, but represents the visionary aspect of the project which supports the region’s positive, vibrant and dynamic aspirations.
